Lost Pines Scout Reservation Ranger 1978-1996

Longest Tenured Camp Ranger at Lost Pines Scout Reservation, 1978-1996: Jack D. Jenkins, born 1930, died 2013, Bastrop, Jack was the Camp Ranger at Lost Pines Scout Reservation from May 1978 to October 1996. Jack Jenkins joined Scouting in 1938 in the Ashland, Kentucky Tri-state Area Council. In 1948 he enlisted in the Air Force. While stationed at Bergstrom Air Force Base, Jack served as Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 96 between 1963 to 1964 and also acted as Assistant Scoutmaster to Troop 444 in 1965. Jack served in Vietnam from 1965 to 1966. Upon returning from Vietnam he was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base Florida and worked with Explorer Post 51 on base from 1966 to 1967. Jack retired from the Air Force in 1968. In 1969 he served as neighborhood commissioner in the Pioneer District. Other Scouting Honors earned include: Scouters Training Award in 1970, OA Vigil Honor June 1970, Scouters Key 1971, Wood Badge SC-2 in 1972, Founders Award 1993, and James E. West Fellowship 1996. Jack actively volunteered at the Veterans Administration in Austin, and provided assistance to the Lost Pines Ranger Staff after his retirement until his death (he and his wife “Dotty” moved across the street from the camp upon his retirement). Jack received the Silver Beaver in 2005. He assisted Te Starr in both published histories in 1977 to 1983, History of the Tonkawa Lodge, forty-seven years and Making a Difference Every Day, the 100th Anniversary History of Capitol Area Council 1912-2012 from 1995 to 2012.
